# Client intake question bank

Pick what fits, delete the rest. The test for every question: **if the answer
never changes what you do, cut it.**

## Business context

- What does your business do, in your own words?
- Who is your customer? Describe your best one.
- Who are your two or three main competitors?

## Goals and success

- What should this project make true that isn't true today?
- How will you judge whether it worked, three months in?
- What's the deadline — and what's driving it?

## Scope guardrails

- Who gives final approval on deliverables?
- Is there anything explicitly OUT of scope we should know about?
- Have you done a project like this before? What happened?

## Logistics, assets, and access

- Preferred communication channel, and who else should be included?
- Brand assets: logos (vector), fonts, guidelines — as uploads, not promises
- The specific accounts you'll need access to, requested by name

## Industry add-ons

**Web design:** copy readiness (written / drafted / need help) · 2–3 sites
you like and why · pages and features expected · domain registrar + hosting
**Branding:** the business in 3–5 years · three words the brand should feel
like, three it never should · brands you admire and one you find off-putting
**Social media:** brand voice in concrete terms · hard no's (topics, words,
stances) · approval workflow and turnaround
**SEO/content:** most profitable services · what's been tried and what
happened · compliance constraints
**Photography:** must-have shots and people · usage (personal / marketing /
commercial) · portfolio permission
**Coaching:** what should be different, and why now · what's been tried ·
how you'll know it worked in six months
**Consulting:** the problem in your own words · stakeholders (sponsor,
day-to-day, potential blockers) · success in measurable terms
**Bookkeeping:** entity type · software · how far behind · number of
accounts · anything unusual (inventory, currencies, payroll)

## Cut these

- "How did you hear about us?" (post-sale)
- Budget questions after the contract is signed
- Essay questions you won't act on ("describe your brand values in detail")
- Anything you already know from the sales process

## Form design rules

- 3–5 questions per step, visible progress
- Easy first, thinking middle, homework (uploads/access) last
- Say how long it takes; allow save-and-return
- Explain the "why" on any question that could read as nosy
